We had PF Changs for dinner tonight and the waitress gave Gracie a fortune cookie too. We kept her fortune. For two reasons: 1. it was her first fortune cookie and 2. because of what it said.

I am a mother, a wife, a teacher, a daughter, a friend, a confidante...you name it. During the day, I am a high school English teacher at an inner-city high school. At night, I am a mommy to Gracyn, wife to Dave, step-mom to Nate, etc. To be able to retain some of being a woman, and not just a mom or a teacher, I am also a lia sophia Advisor.
Gracyn was diagnosed with a congenital birth defect at 28w and then with Symbrachydactyly in August of 2008. She is willful, driven, stubborn and hell bent on not letting her disability impact her life negatively...gee, I wonder where she gets those qualities?

my one and only child. a combination of the two of us. she has so much to overcome and doesn't even know it. she amazes me daily. her spirit and her will make her a match for any opponent she meets. i love her for all that she is and for all that she has yet to become.

I just stumbled upon your blog looking for a photo of a mango (and a more perfect photo of a mango than yours does not exist). It is a pleasure to read. Three days ago we celebrated my oldest daughter's bat mitzvah and I remember all the bits and pieces of her infancy -- and while she did not have the challenges your daughter may face, I just wanted to comment from this part of the road that's it's a great journey.
